The mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) is a transcription factor expressed in many cells that regulates the expression of genes in involved myriad cell type-specific functions. Inappropriate activation of the MR causes hypertension and pathological tissue remodeling even in conditions of normal aldosterone levels.
