ABSTRACT: Recent data from the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) suggest that annual low-dose chest CT scans in patients who smoke, leads to early detection of lung cancer and improves survival. CMS/Medicare has consequently approved CT scans for lung cancer screening, and the VA National Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention has adopted a similar approach.
