Abstract Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Nearly one in four veterans have T2DM and this prevalence is estimated to increase to 36% by 2025. Lifestyle interventions aiming at weight loss are successful at reducing risk of diabetes but long-term weight-maintenance strategies have been found to be unsustainable.
