Fibrotic and adipogenic infiltration is a hallmark of injured and aged skeletal muscle. This muscle fibroadipogenic degeneration (or “MFD”) is responsible in part for the functional decline of skeletal muscle and the increased prevalence of metabolic disorders in aged individuals.
